Koa’s Seaside Grill: Great Breakfast and an Incredible Ocean View

Koa’s Seaside Grill: Ocean View

When you walk into Koa’s Seaside Grill, the first thing you notice is the view. It’s an incredible view of the Pacific Ocean and the Hawaiian Island of Lanai. On the morning we went for breakfast, the waves were huge and we had a fantastic experience.

Our hostess escorted us to our table along the edge of the railing. We were so close to the water that we actually got splashed. It’s not a common occurrence, but the waves were really big. Our servers, Toni and Jeff, introduced themselves and took our drink orders: waters for everyone and coffee for me. Both Toni and Jeff were friendly and welcoming.

Activity Books for the Kids

Toni brought activity books for the kids along with menus. Instead of crayons, the activity books came with something called Wikki Stix. I thought this was a nice change from the standard keiki coloring menu. My kids both liked them better, too.

The kids spent more time playing with the WIkki Stix than looking at the menus and it was a while before they knew what they wanted for breakfast. I had it narrowed down between the Eggs Benedict and the Spanish Omelette. They both looked really appetizing and I knew I would be able to decide by the time my kids were finally ready.

When Toni and Jeff came by to take our orders, the kids had finished playing (for now) and we were ready to order. I opted for the Spanish omelette, my son ordered buttermilk pancakes and bacon, and my daughter ordered french toast and bacon.

Toni and Jeff complimented us on our selections. While we waited for our food to arrive, the kids continued to be occupied with their activity kits and I had a chance to take in the atmosphere of the restaurant.

The interior of Koa’s Seaside Grill reflects the spirit of Maui: lots of Aloha and a very friendly. The wait staff reflected the spirit of Aloha, as well. I watched as they checked on the other patrons in the restaurant. I knew that the friendliness and attentiveness of the crew was a reflection of their leader, Buff Weaver.

Buff Weaver, the managing owner of Koa’s Seaside Grill, is one of the nicest restauranteurs on Maui. He stopped by our table to check on us and make sure everything was going well. Buff is a gregarious owner and stopped by all the tables and spoke with all his guests. He treated everyone in the restaurant like family or ‘Ohana.

Koa’s Seaside Grill: Spanish Omelette, French Toast, and Pancakes

The coffee served at Koa’s Seaside Grill is good. Mine was served hot and I had my choice of several sweeteners and cream. I like that they served stevia as one of the options.

After what seemed like just minutes, Toni and Jeff brought our breakfasts to the table. The plates were very full and Toni also brought an extra bowl filled with butterscotch whipped cream for the french toast and pancakes.

My Spanish Omelette was topped beautifully with slices of avocado and cheese. It was a tasty omelette, too. Each bite was filled with the crunchiness of the green peppers and onions, the creaminess of the melted cheese, and the richness of the eggs. The English muffin was lightly buttered and the potatoes were crispy. I needed to add a little butter to the English muffin to meet my preference, but everything else was perfect the way it was served.

The kids liked their breakfasts, too. My daughter thought the butterscotch whipped cream was “like eating a cloud.” She tasted her bacon and smiled. “The bacon has a smoky flavor. Like a sweet smokiness.” she added that the bacon was juicy. I’m not that into bacon so I was not really sure what she meant, but if she liked that the bacon was juicy, I was good with it.

She let me try her french toast, and it was delicious. It tasted sweet with an almost fruity flavor. Similar to a panettone bread pudding, but with the extra benefit of maple syrup and that delicious butterscotch whipped cream.

My son’s pancakes also filled the plate. One thing for sure, the breakfast portions at Koa’ Seaside Grill are huge. We all received more food than we expected.

The pancakes were very light. They were slightly crispy on the outside and extremely fluffy on the inside. My son placed a huge glob of the butterscotch whipped cream and lots of maple syrup on them before digging into his breakfast. I watched him try to put a huge forkful into his mouth. He really enjoyed it. He agreed with his sister that the bacon was very good.

Buff stopped by the table once more to see how we were doing with our breakfast. We assured him that everything was delicious.

Not one of us was able to finish everything on our plates. We wanted to, there just wasn’t enough room. We all agreed that we like the food as much as we like the view.

Koa’s Seaside Grill also has seating upstairs which I hear has an even better view than the main dining area. I looked over their menu for lunch and dinner; it looked really good. Next time, we are going to come in for lunch and we are going to try the upstairs seating.
