Family Breakfast at Captain Jack’s in Lahaina Maui Hawaii

Captain Jack’s Eggs Benedict, French Toast, and More

Usually, the kids want to go to town to have a “walking breakfast”. We stop for a cup of coffee or juice and pick up Spam musubi at Nagasako’s over by Foodland. We take a walk down Front St. and sometimes on the beach. This morning, they wanted to have a sit down breakfast and try the pancakes and french toast over at Captain Jack’s Island Grill.

We arrived around 10:00am and Captain Jack’s wasn’t very crowded. We were seated at a table with room for four and had a chance to look over the menus. Before we even opened the menus, I knew what everyone was going to have: pancakes, over-easy eggs, and bacon; french toast, scrambled eggs, and bacon; and eggs benedict.

The last time we ate at Captain Jack’s was for dinner several weeks ago. The dinner at Captain Jack’s was very good, especially the fish specials, and I was looking forward to seeing how well they prepared breakfast.

When our waiter came by with water, we ordered juice (for the kids) and coffee (for me). He asked us if we knew what we wanted and we made our food requests.

Crab Cake Eggs Benedict

We didn’t have to wait very long before our food arrived. My Crab Cake Eggs Benedict was served with potatoes prepared with green & red peppers and onions. The potatoes were cooked well, so they were tender and tasty. The Hollandaise was not overly thick, but covered the Eggs Benedict very well. The eggs were poached easy and the yolk ran nicely when I cut into it. The highlight of the dish was the crab cakes. Crispy on the outside, lots of crab flavor, and a delicious complement to the meal.

Pancakes, Eggs, and Bacon

My son tasted his first bite of pancake and declared it, “Amazing.”

He couldn’t describe why they were amazing, they just were. He said they were even better than the pancakes he had at the Original Pancake House in Anaheim.

I tasted the pancakes and he was right. They were light, flavorful, and held a good amount of butter and syrup. The bacon was cooked crispy and left very little grease on the plate. His eggs were over-easy, as requested.

French Toast, Eggs, and Bacon

My daughter’s French Toast was sweet and crispy on the edges. You could tell they used plenty of egg batter; not just a piece of bread dipped quick and fried. The bacon that came with the French Toast was not as well done as the bacon that came with the pancakes and could have used a few more minutes of cooking. Next time, we will make sure we ask for them to be prepared extra crispy.

The service at Captain Jack’s Island Grill was friendly and we enjoyed the experience. Next time, I am going to try the classic Eggs Benedict.

Captain Jack’s Island Grill is located above the ABC Store across from the Banyan Tree and the Pioneer Inn.
