Cool Cat Cafe Beef Burger of the Month October 2014: “Octoburgerfest”

This month’s burger of the month is called “Octoburgerfest”, which sounds intriguing, enough. So far, I’ve yet to be disappointed by any of their BOM’s, so I look forward to this one, as well.

I enter the restaurant with a couple of friends, and we go right for the booth in the air-conditioned area of the restaurant. It’s a warm one, today, and the cooler temperature will be a nice break, for us. It’s a great day for lunch.

I order the regular burger of the month, as well as my traditional chocolate peanut-butter shakes, and one of my compadres gets the veggie-version, called (appropriately enough) “Veggieburgerfest”, featuring their Lifefoods Vegan Patty, as usual. This patty is a cut above most vegan patties, with a plethora of healthy ingredients and gluten-free grains. Neither one of us is strictly vegetarian, but like a balance between healthy free-range beef and chicken and vegetarian fare. I’ll split my beef version and he’ll split his veggie-version so that we’ll each have some of each. Our dining companion is going for the beef version of the Octoburgerfest, for the 3rd time, this month…so HE likes, it…of that, you may be SURE! A good portent for the rest of us.

The burger is marinated in Newcastle beer and Worcestershire, studded with bacon and onion on an onion bun. It features the usual lettuce, tomato, and red onion, but it’s topped with pepper jack cheese, crispy fried onion straws, and their homemade spicy avocado ranch. Should be a great combo! We’ll see…

The food arrives promptly (another great feature of Cool Cat’s: never a long waiting time, regardless of how busy they get!), and we dig straight in.

My first bite tells me that I’m going to enjoy this BOM as much as any other I’ve had, here. I’d heard that they marinate the burger in beer for their October burger, but this is the first time I’ve tried it. The flavor is quite different and in combination with the Worcestershire, really brings the beef to a new level of deliciousness, tantalizing the taste buds with a slight sweetness, while the crunch of the fried onions and lettuce give a nice texture to the mix. The spicy avo ranch sauce coupled with the pepper jack cheese give it a zip which will have your tongue doing a little dance, in your mouth!

I’d rate this pretty highly, with the veggie burger coming in a close second, for me. I can see how my friend had the burger three times, this month!
