Cool Cat Cafe: Burger of the Month June 2014

Today’s Burger of the Month is the “All Hail, Caesar”, and to tell the truth, it’s one I might not have chosen if I wasn’t writing a review on it.

I enter the Cool Cat Cafe on a hot afternoon with a friend, and we both decide that the air-conditioned area is more to our liking, today. Not much breeze happening, right now. Thank God for A.C.!

We take a booth, and make ourselves at home, which is easy with the music playing 50’s and 60’s style, the way I like it. None of that Raggae stuff or music past the 70’s if you want to keep the ambience of the restaurant intact. Having had a Hawaiian-style coffee shop of my own, I know how important it is to have consistency with the motif of the establishment, and how much difference it makes when that isn’t happening.

My friend orders a salad, and I go whole-hog (I don’t have to be anywhere for a while) and get the Burger of the Month AND my usual peanut-butter/chocolate shake, topped with peanut butter cups, no less! Made with local Roselani ice-cream, you just can’t beat a shake from this place, so I get one when I’m not in any hurry to go anywhere.

So, we chat a bit, and enjoy the posters on the wall, as well as the overall tone of the place. I hit upon the idea to have our local Elvis impersonator do a show here, sometime. How cool would THAT be?

In a short time, the shake arrives, with the steel cup accompanying the full glass of my liquid ambrosia, the way they did in the days of olde, and to tell the truth, perhaps the only place on the island that still does it this way. (Ruby’s might, not sure. Been awhile since I’ve eaten there!) Nice touch, Cool Cat! Keeps me coming back for more.

Now comes the burger, and I inspect it carefully before taking my first bite. On the menu, I don’t usually go for a Caesar salad right off, as they’re fairly predictable in most places, but the combos here for the BOM haven’t disappointed me yet, so I dig right in. Wow! Very good. The flavors mesh nicely together to give just what they promised…a Caesar salad combined with a burger!

Their Angus beef is topped with roasted red peppers, pepperoncini, Caesar-tossed Romaine lettuce, with shaved parmesan on toasted garlic bread, and the flavors complement each other beautifully! They give you a nice little wedge of Caesar-brushed Romaine on the side as a mini salad to go with your salad burger…Nice little garnish.

Days later, I have the vegetarian version, called “Et Tu, Brute?” (why not?) and their locally made veggie-burger is among the best, but I think I prefer the beef version for this burger. I enjoy this as much for what it offers (great combo of flavors, and my traditional shake, of course) Somehow the flavors on the beef version meshed better for me, without any additional flavors from the vegetable patty necessary to the overall taste.

Regardless, another hit for Cool Cat Cafe, and when July rolls around, I’ll be back with another review! Until then, if you get the chance to try THIS one, don’t pass it up!

See you there!
